Do you sell handmade crafts and wonder if you need to buy a fiscal cash register? Check the current regulations for 2026, exemption limits, and find out when recording sales is mandatory for you.
In principle, every sale to private individuals requires a fiscal cash register. However, as a craftmaker, you can benefit from an exemption if your annual B2C turnover does not exceed 20 000 zł or if you sell exclusively by mail order (with payment to a bank account). Still, you must watch your product range – selling precious metal jewelry or artisanal perfumes forces you to purchase a cash register from the very first item sold, regardless of turnover.
If you create and sell your own handmade items, your goal is to grow your passion and reach customers, not worry about tax inspections. The fiskasy.pl team is here to take the burden of formalities off your shoulders. You need to know that Polish regulations clearly define when your crafts must be recorded on a cash register and when you can skip it. Learn the exact rules and protect your business against unnecessary penalties.
When Is a Fiscal Cash Register Your Absolute Duty?
Even if you are just starting out, certain products exclude any exemptions. You must install a fiscal cash register from the first item sold if you create and sell:
Precious metal products – this applies, among others, to jewelry made of gold, silver, or platinum. Even a single silver ring obligates you to undergo fiscalization.
Perfumes and toilet waters – producing and selling unique fragrances always entails the obligation to have a cash register.
If your assortment includes these products, do not look for exceptions – you should equip yourself with the right device right away.
How to Benefit from the 20 000 zł Exemption?
If your handmade goods are not on the mandatory fiscalization list, you can avoid buying a cash register thanks to the turnover threshold. You will be exempt from this obligation if, in a given tax year, your sales turnover to private individuals and flat-rate farmers does not exceed 20 000 zł.
Keep two key rules in mind:
Proportion matters: If you start selling halfway through the year, your limit is proportionally reduced and will amount to 10 000 zł.
Action upon exceeding the limit: As soon as you exceed the permitted amount, you have exactly 2 months to purchase the device and complete fiscalization.
Sales to other businesses (B2B) do not count towards this limit at all.
Mail Order Sales – A Way Around the Limits
Do you sell exclusively online? You can sell without a fiscal cash register, even if you exceed the 20 000 zł turnover, as long as you meet two conditions simultaneously:
Payment solely to a bank account: The entire payment must be transferred to your bank account.
Complete documentation: The bank transfer details must clearly state what was purchased and who the buyer is (full name, address), and your records must include proof of dispatch (e.g., a consignment note).
Note: Cash on delivery shipments or in-person pickups with cash payments waive this right and fall under standard limits.
Unregistered Business Activity and Cash Registers in 2026
Unregistered business activity (DN) exempts you from CEIDG registration and (most often) from VAT, but does not exempt you from fiscal cash register regulations. In 2026, the quarterly revenue limit for DN is 10813,50 zł (which equals 225% of the gross minimum wage).
If, within your unregistered activity, you sell products excluded from exemptions (e.g., silver) or exceed the previously mentioned annual threshold of 20 000 zł (from sales to private individuals), you must purchase a fiscal cash register.
What Must You Do When You Do Not Have a Cash Register?
Operating without a fiscal cash register does not mean operating without formalities. You should diligently maintain simplified sales records to prove during an inspection that you have not exceeded the limits. Make sure your records contain:
