Yes, printing an overdue report from a cash register is almost always possible. If you forgot a daily report, you must generate it immediately – preferably before you start the first sale on the new business day. The device will always print such a report with the current date of generation, but in your accounting records, you will need to assign it to the day the sale actually took place. You can generate an overdue monthly report at any time without major complications.
Deadlines you must strictly observe
Tax law regulations, which are fully in force in 2026, clearly define the timeframes for your record-keeping duties. Remember that even with modern online cash registers, you still need to generate reports for evidentiary and archiving purposes.
Daily report: You must generate it after sales end on a given day. The final deadline is just before you start recording the first sale on the next business day. This is required by § 6 para. 1 item 3 of the Regulation of the Minister of Finance of June 25, 2025. If you didn't sell anything on a given day, you don't need to run a report.
Monthly report: Generate it after sales end on the last day of the month. You have until the 25th day of the following month at the latest. You must have the January report in your documents by February 25 at the latest.
How to fix an overdue daily report situation?
Realized your mistake? Act methodically, identify your scenario, and generate the overdue document immediately.
You haven't rung up any new sales yet: You are in the best possible situation. Before serving your first customer today, generate the daily report. Remember that the cash register will record it under today's execution date, but the report itself will summarize yesterday's sales. Consult your accountant to assign it to the correct day in your records.
You have already started new sales: You must generate the report immediately. In this situation, the printout will include yesterday's sales and any portion of today's transactions you have already registered. This document will also receive the actual date the operation was performed.
Printing an overdue monthly report
A missing monthly report is not a critical technical issue. Cash registers are designed to allow you to print it at any time.
A monthly report is a so-called "reading report". This means that generating it does not overwrite the cash register memory, but merely compiles a summary of previously generated daily reports. Despite the late date of the physical printout, this summary always applies strictly to sales from the selected, closed month. You must keep these documents at least until the statute of limitations on the tax liability expires.
Consequences of errors – why you need to be careful
A careless approach to reporting is a direct path to serious trouble with the Tax Office.
Settlement gridlock: Missing reports makes it difficult or even impossible to properly maintain VAT records. This delays your accounting workflow and generates unnecessary costs for corrections.
Financial penalties: Tax authorities treat missing reports as a serious violation. You risk fines, penalties, and in extreme cases, fiscal penal proceedings.
